Empowering Women Through “Yes We Can” Project

In 2019, Young Women Rise received funding from Women First International to implement the “Yes We Can” Project in Chiradzulu District, Malawi. This initiative was designed with a clear mission — to ensure that 80% of local women become economically empowered.

The documentary highlights how this transformative project introduced sustainable income-generating activities such as:

• Soap making

• Cooking oil production

• Access to small loans through Village Savings and Loans (VSL) groups

Women like Femia Felix, a member of a soap-making group, share powerful testimonials about how the project has improved their livelihoods. Others from VSL groups echo similar stories of growth, independence, and hope.

Mr. Bright Sineta, the project officer, offers key insights into why the project was introduced and the positive impact it has had on the women and their communities.
