Statistics indicate that the Neno District Health Office has treated 384 cases of abortion between December 2023 and now, a concern that has triggered sexual reproductive health rights awareness campaigns.
The figure was revealed today during an SRHR training where the Young Women Rise organization is engaging members of all five T/A’s youth clubs to address SRHR4’s unmet issues.
YOWORI executive director Milliam Chilemba says if the youths are made aware of their sexual rights, issues of unsafe abortions will be minimized since they will know where to seek care.
Neno District Council Youth Officer Ian Sukali says the training is key to ensuring that the youth are aware of their rights, make informed decisions, and contribute to national development aspirations.
Meanwhile, Neno District Youth Network Chairperson Bright Khungwa has asked the trained youths to pass on the knowledge to others in their respective clubs and T/As.
